I wonder how much of the tip Dinii is skimming? Also, as the article says this sounds more like the otaku crowd, who go to their favorite shop to see their favorite idol waitress and throw money at her.
I think this will die out, but you never know.

Do people not remember that Japan's constitution that was mostly written by the US has article 9 stating they will never have a military and will never take as aggressive stance against another country?
How are they expected to defend Taiwan in that case! I know it is semantics and they do have one of the larger self-defense forces in the world, but still!

While I hate admitting anything Trump said was true or correct, he was right to say that Japan was spoiled. For the longest time they sold to the US without ever thinking about looking for new markets. They thought that things would run the same as ever. But now we have Trump, and he has upset the apple cart, and now Japan must scramble to either placate his crazy tariff ideas, or find new markets. But they have waited too long I fear.

I still say, find one police officer in each town, municipality, train him with a hunting rifle, and when the time comes he is called to duty to shoot the animal. The rifle would remain in the police station or Koban under lock and key, and the public could have confidence in the system.

"We'd want the government to make sure there's some kind of a safety net for producers," Hosaka said at his farm in the northern prefecture of Niigata.
Why do farmers need a safety net provided by the government? They always want to be bailed out whenever anything little thing goes wrong. But if I open a new convenience store and it doesn't do well, too bad there is no safety net for me.

Since crude oil prices have recently fluctuated amid tensions in the Middle East, the credit research firm said, "We need to keep an eye on price hikes derived from energy."
What a joke! Oil prices have been way down and held steady for almost 8 months, and slightly fluctuated for a couple of days when the bombing of Iran took place. But anything as an excuse to screw the consumer, who just takes it and doesn't complain.
Oh look it is July 1st here is another list of stuff going up, even though most prices are stable. What can we blame this time, oh let's say ...... fill in the excuse for this month.

This has been the Japanese gov'ts playbook for years now. Throw money at whatever problem they find. But as the economist stated, there are many people who don't need the money to live comfortably, but they get it nonetheless.
But I also think it has to do with Japan's thinking about making it fair for everyone, and not singling out people suffering economic hardship.

I don't trust Tamaki, he has a couple of times tried to blame foreigners for not paying taxes and getting free health care, when it is not true. But a female candidate who also was accused of having an affair was dropped by the CDPJ because her indiscretions were seen as causing trouble for the party!

The volunteers were the worst “teachers” ever in my case.
Took a few volunteer-taught classes organized by my Tokyo ward office. The volunteers were nice people desiring to interact, but they lacked organization and direction. They didn’t seem to have any teacher training.
So you got some free language lessons from people who were volunteering their time to try and help you, and all you can say is that they were the worst teachers ever! That is gratitude if I've ever heard it.
Maybe thank your local ward office for not supplying them with any tools or curriculum. Maybe if the fat asses in your city hall would do their jobs, they might have a decent program.

I feel like the person who wrote this story has some connection to a company that is trying to get a contract with local gov'ts to teach Japanese to foreigners. Sure the teachers might not be licensed, but if they are teaching basic fundamentals like hiragana , katakana, kanji and basic survival Japanese, how in any way would this hinder the students?
As others have said, this is one of the strangest and stupidest articles I've read here on JT!

Koike should pass a law banning all Data centers in Tokyo! But she won't as she wants the revenue! They are all complicit.

Two things, first Japanese were really spoiled for a long time, as restaurants and supermarkets barely raised prices. So they got used to paying the same thing for a long time. Now that inflation has hit and shops have no choice but to raise the prices, people feel the pain, especially as their salaries are not keeping up with inflation.
As for curry being a cheap and filling dish, I always felt that it was a dish made at home on the cheap, for a family that would also have leftovers for another meal. Most people I talk to never eat curry outside!
