The power must be taken out of these middlemen's hands. If rice is so important to us then profit must be taken out of the equation. Farmer - Retailer - Public

End this ridiculous broadcasting of trips to Yasakuni. By all means go and enjoy yourselves but don't dump it all over the news. It's like rubbing victims faces in it. It just adds fuel to the fire.

Unfortunately not. There are still some cultural practices, social systems which aren't accepted by western countries. I would say Japan is still in terms of society about 50 years behind Europe. I'm thinking of women's social mobility and butchering whales. These and many more things will ensure Japan is never a 'western' country

It's an isolated incident and is nothing more than foolish behaviour. It does not need to spark a wider debate, but the xenophobes will always have their say. How many Japanese drivers are arrested for hit and runs or drunken driving each year?

Farming needs to become a viable career option so that rural communities are rejuvenated and those communities can create jobs. The benefits of living in the countryside have to be highlighted instead of all the focus on big city life. This fallacy that convenience is everything has to be quashed.
Any other option or path taken by politicians is simply wasting time and petty politicking. Food production should be the #1 focus of this government.

There are US bases all over the world. This doesn't seem to happen in those places (or maybe it does and is covered up) for example across Europe.

I work in education and some of the workloads of the children I work with are unbelievable. Many students, especially high-school are extremely overworked and have little time for themselves. Then they spend what free time they do have staring into social media. It is not a healthy combination. Fear of the future is also contributing I think as the future is all doom and gloom as far as any media is concerned.

I can understand their frustrations. They don't want to be walking around the whole time policing guests. It may not be a great solution for everyone as 99% of tourists are respectful but sometimes only a blanket rule will suffice. It seems like there are some tourists who are purposely disrespecting the shrines because of their own political/historical world views. That is unacceptable behaviour in a foreign country.
