Just what can't climate change do is the question?

It's an amazing force of nature.

If evolution is true, plants and animals will just evolve to adapt to the heat or cold as they have in the past.

No worries.

Taxes won't save the planet.

It's quite pleasant in the shade. When you can find some.

Shade and water are important anywhere that has a summer.

Treesless concrete places, like Tokyo or other urban cities around the world, even more so.

My area cut down hundreds of trees last year. Not sure why.

Maybe so people will feel it's hotter and pay more taxes for the Gov to save them?

Yokoso

Have a great time in Japan enjoying the sights, sounds, smells, people and food that are here.

Take home many precious memories you can treasure and tell to others forever.

When one can travel, one should travel. Nay - Must!

It's our bipedal gift of nature to move around and explore new boundaries.

We need to move, for our health amd well being and sense of adventure

To stay idle, is to become mouldy and stale.

Enjoy your time in Japan you welcome travelers.

Tell us a tale from your strange lands while here as the transference of knowledge is the meaning of life.

That's some serious omotenashi

https://www.japan.travel/en/au/experience/culture/omotenashi/

Well done Kyoto.

There is a good business case for lower priced 1 or 2 star hotels to cater for locals with less disposable income.

When traveling around other countries, I have often seen some very cheap places that locals stay in, as they can't afford the nicer hotels that the international tourists can. SE Asia has loads of them, so they could be built in Japan too.

Nice hotels are looking to get the best paying guests they can of course.

This may solve the price concerns in some case and locals may find Kyoto to be worth visiting for the cultural sites after all.

Can't drink champange on a beer budget, but many historical sites are free or quite cheap, even on a local's lower salary.

Of note though. There was a yatai selling chocolate bananas with a sign in English saying 'JAPANESE SPEAKERS ONLY! Which I found an odd business decision as it's a tourist island and would affect sales.

Even though my nihingo can suffice quite sufficiently, he will have no business from me.

Maybe he can't uderstand English numbers like 1 or 2 please. Hand gestures are maybe a touch beyond him too.

A sorry sight tbh.

Was in Enoshima yesterday and the place was suitably packed with tourists.

A large numver of these, young Chinese travellers enjoying the temples and treats the island has to offer.

While more crowded than usual, so slightly longer lines, it was a festive atmosphere and the Chinese tourists were outtight friendly to us. Many saying hello and waving as they passed.

Were some really lovely views to be had too.

More relaxed and friendly people on the island was a welcome change from what it was a few years ago. Which was sour, glum and devoid of many people and smiling faces.

Great place for those higher on the happiness index.

What really amazes me is how Russia has been able to maintain the conflict this long, with their crippling economy, only 100 days of missiles left (in 2022) and fighting with only soviet era rifles they pick up off fallen comrades while running en-masse like orcs at the trenches in the front lines and eventually having to swing at the enemy with shovels.

Let's hope the needless deaths of sons and fathers of both sides ends as soon as it can.

Posted in: Japan to increase salaries of chefs at diplomatic missions See in context

Whenever I have had the pleasue to attend Japanese (or other countries') Embassy events overseas, usually at the Ambassadorial residences or at cultural festivals, the food has been of high quality and the staff (both from Japan, elsewhere and locally) is always professional and very warm and friendly. A cut above even what you may even receive in high class restaurants.

I think 6 million yearly is decent but if was higher., I would agree they deserve it.

The people I have met mainly lived in the residence with other staff, butlers and crew, so even though saving money on rent, they are also kind of on call for 24/7.

The diplomatic prestige they can add to any function is a sort after value.

This conflict will end when Russia has control of the five regions of predominantly ethnic Russians that voted to be part of Russia in 2012 / 2013 and again much more recently.

East of the river and the Black Sea will have access to Ukraine only by river and tolls.

Hopefully sooner than later so less sons and fathers have to die.

Unscientific, ineffective and draconian Coronavirus "so called counter-measures" that promoted isolation and hiding faces from visual and emotional cues was bound to have a negative impact, especially among children, tbeir mental health and social interpersonal skills.

We are seeing the rotten fruits of this increasingly now as many recent studies from experts in psychological health now show.

Hopefully it saved an elderly life or two.

How about sharing the island and it's resources?

Could be beneficial to both nations.

Good will, access to the shared EEC, not needing to buy so much military equipment to posture afound and flex.

Games and activities between each other. Tourism to the island and fishing tours.

Less chance of an incident that leads to something larger.

Children are taught to share.

Why not adults?
