Japan is between a rock and a hard place right now. They needed to have some sort of contingency or mini contingency in place but they are limited by their Constitution. Hard to foresee this new relationship but it's like having a hot and cold friend: you always have to wonder about whether he's a real friend and will be there in time of need like he promised. That friend is ice cold now and for the foreseeable future. Time to start drafting and getting these young boys ready to take up arms. It is what it is and the time to act was yesterday.

Maybe times are different, but I don't think either my parents, or I would allow a 16 year old to travel from Tokyo to Aichi to meet a friend they met online alone. Someone they have never met, and didn't know whether or not it was a male or female!
Seriously! The family seem grossly negligent and good attentive parenting may have prevented this tragedy. Hope they put this POS behind bars for at least a few decades. RIP to the young girl.

10 downvotes. lol
but Zero examples.
that’s typical.
You need to see examples? I can give you hundreds but it won't sway people like you. I find it amazing (but not at all shocking) that you need to see an example. Ever heard of the Tuskegee Airmen? The government purposely giving black people syphilis? The separation of all sports leagues into the 1950s? DT himself denying housing to black people and also wanting the Central Park Five executed before trial based solely on the fact that they were black? I have plenty more but you aren't ready to listen. Make sure you put the blame squarely where it belongs when the policies of this administration cause great harm to the American people. As with your hero, I think you'll just deflect and blame Biden and Obama: The previous Democratic administrations screwed it up so badly that it couldn't be fixed no matter how hard we tried. That is the GOP playbook. They didn't try diversity though, just division.

The war ended 80 years ago. The following generations had a lot of work to do, and with help from the Allied powers, were able to bring huge prosperity to the country up to the 1990s. Those days are long gone and the model for success no longer exists in the same way. Must be the reason why she said "from that time." Be careful using outdated models.

Is anywhere "off the beaten path" now? Anyway, Nokogiriyama in Chiba and its grounds are pretty nice. The Hyaku-shaku Kannon and other attractions are very worth seeing and I've recommended them to some of my new co-workers. Taking the train from Tokyo or the ferry from Kurihama is a chore to most so I think this would fit into the topic's category. The Tokyo-wan Kannon statue is also in the general area, along with the Boso Flower Line and Tateyama Lighthouse and some lesser known but interesting shrines and temples and even a castle. You could see it all by bicycle like I've done and get a great amount of exercise and lower your carbon footprint all at the same time.

This was all over the news for months. The evidence is circumstantial but overwhelming and I am totally convinced that this woman is the culprit. They got the right person and no retrial is necessary. Even the son is not sure of her Innocence. It's his mother so he has to support her if he says she's innocent but him being not sure says a lot. It's too bad his life has been influenced so negatively. The harassment and online bullying is terrible but the annulled engagement was beneficial. You don't want to marry someone who doesn't really love you or stand by you through thick and thin anyway. Poor guy. I wish him luck. His life has been way too overly influenced by something he had nothing to do with and that makes him a victim in other ways too. It's extremely honorable that he has not abandoned his mother though. Hate the sin, love the sinner. I wish him and the husband well.

Posted in: Japanese people more susceptible to authoritarian messages: research See in context
From my experience, people here generally tend to believe exactly what they see or hear on their trusted media outlet as they don't typically look for alternative views. They do what they are told at work and will suffer rather than raise their voice. They also tend to believe general "truths" and don't typically dig for extra information or question what authoritative figures in life or in government tell them: foreigners commit the most crime, Japan has four seasons and other countries don't, only Japan has certain things, only Japanese return lost items, most countries are dangerous, etc. When you are already brainwashed like that, it's easy to believe lots of other false narratives, especially if the speaker is well mannered, well spoken even keeled, smartly dressed and of a lighter skin tone.

Some people have gone beyond protest, setting Tesla vehicles on fire or committing other acts of vandalism that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has decried as domestic terrorism. In a March 20 company meeting, Musk indicated that he was dumbfounded by the attacks and said the vandals should “stop acting psycho.”
Probably the only time I'll ever agree with Bondi. It is domestic terrorism but you cannot say that it is organized and not just random or that it is the left doing it. No one should have to deal with vandalism, their cars burned or swastikas painted on their property. It angers me and I dislike Teslas and Musk intensely but one should protest against the person you feel you have a problem with, not someone who bought one of this products
But police were investigating a fire that destroyed seven Teslas in northwestern Germany in the early morning. It was not immediately clear if the blaze, which was extinguished by firefighters, was related to the protests
Honestly, stuff like this reminds me of the history of Germany, specifically Kristallnacht, but without the overt racial/ ethnic element. Are we starting to repeat that same pattern?

Yeah, I'm getting all worked up. Anyway, I didn't mention any in my rebuttal either so I don't get your point. Here's mine: If they have such a big problem, close it off completely and be done with it. The constant whine about foreigners is way past annoying, especially for people who say they don't complain. Ninety-nine point nine percent of the world will absolutely not care when/if they close this place.

Just deal with each offender on a case by case basis. Solves the problem and prevents you from looking like a racist, etc.
> I think from the article, that the shrine already tried that without avail, and probably is not a thing of one or two pople every couple of days but tens of poeple daily.
> Hiring a security service is also costly and a shrine is not exactly a money making organization that can afford to pay for several private guards 24/7.
Not buying that assessment. Most shrines have money coming out their torii. Come down hard on all offenders and post sign in several languages at entrances that tourists have to stop at and read before entering. Have them come in in paid guided groups if necessary . I absolutely do not believe that all the offenders up to now have been foreigners. They only publicize it when foreigners are involved just like in this story. All about foreigners behaving badly and that is just going with how it is perceived in the country as whole.
