What's wrong with 4yearold rice?

Old rice has limited water penetration and starch leakage, leading to increased firmness and reduced stickiness. Once it gets to 5 years old it is used as animal feed!

Why all this discussion about the way they dress? Isn't this an appropriate dress for a ceremony commemorating people dead in a horrible war?

It's not that it's not appropriate but Empress Masako always wears the same outfits. Even the hat design is the same.

Japanese royal family fashion is dasai! I imagine the same family have been making their garments for generations! It looks like they got a big discount on 20m of pale gray fabric!

It's ridiculous. Can't visit my widowed, childless neighbor because we're not family. I think they just don't want to bother with visitors coming. Covid is just an excuse!

I used to do this! Bringing in cheap Thai rice! I think you can bring in 100kg a year without paying customs duties. You must declare it on entry though.

Even they still need to learn about quarantine procedure before bringing anything to Japan.

There is no 'quarantine' for packaged rice.

The rodents that carry hantavirus were all over the place including their two cars.

There where live and dead rodents and nests.

They should have had cleaners to clean up the place than placing rat traps in a few places.

The rodents were in unused outbuildings and unused cars housed in those outbuildings. They owned a large property. The main house had no rat infestations!

Well I don't know about the world, but Japan now knows what happened, and that won't get you your money back at all. On the contrary, you're gonna spend the rest of your life in jail. Was it worth it?

He won't have the worry of sarakin chasing him if he's in prison!

Are we here already? Ishiba gave me the creeps from years ago and not sure how anyone in their right mind would think he would have been an inspirational and effective leader. Onigiri stuffing and his dismissive lack of social skills on the international stage may be the legacy.

I personally find Ishiba's lack of pretentiousness endearing. The call for him to be replaced is not about that. It's about Ishiba's attitude toward the U.S! If uncouth people creep you out, Trump must really bother you!

Posted in: Japan auctions emergency rice reserves as prices soar See in context

Tariff is the main reason for the high prices of imported rice.

Still, 2 weeks ago, calrose rice was just 3000yen a 5kg bag at gyomu. Haven't checked how much at present but it's 3600 at cosmos now

Jasmine rice, you can find listing at 3980 on Amazon , tax included

Been buying all kinds of foreign rice for years. When the yen was stronger, I used to pay 3000 yen including tax/5kg for high quality Thai Golden Phoenix rice. For cheaper Thai rice I would pay about 11 000 yen/25 kg. For local rice from the JA, I would pay about 2500 yen/5kg including tax. I don't think the tariffs are unreasonable if it means food security is maintained. As Japan is a small country, it would be impossible to compete with huge countries like the U.S. and China when it comes to farming. But food security doesn't seem to be a priority of the J government.

Brown rice FAR more nutritious than white rice, which is basically just empty carbs, so think twice, health is wealth!

All rice is brown before it's polished!

Simply allow for international competition and Thai rice and Chinese rice and Indonesia rice. See the price plummet.

With the low yen they're just as expensive!

Because Japanese royals have to stay away from politics, members of the Imperial Family tend to study biology, literature and arts.

Oh, is that the reason? Here I was thinking the reason was because they aren't academically inclined!
