Great move by the government of Peru. Several European governments should follow suit and have a war on criminals and gangs.

With as much respect as I can muster, you clearly have no idea what hiking off trail would entail on Fuji. And even less idea of the consequences if lots of people were to do it.

As I said, 3 times off trail. Third time someone on a tracked vehicle came across to tell us to move to the trail. We apologized and started heading towards the stream of plodders on the trail but then went on our way when the "authority" figure took off.

As others have pointed out. Fuji San, is not that high, not that steep and not a difficult hike for a fit person.

Clippity..

Have you been? It really doesn't sound like it.

Yes, like a fool 3 times

Firstly, you can't walk off trail, it isn't permitted, and with very good reason.

Like speeding is also not permitted?

And what do you think happens if you climb up a rocky 'slag heap'? It just crumbles, collapses and endangers everyone below.

No it doesn't, but hard on your boots.

Plus it is utterly exhausting.

For you maybe. For others just a 4.5 km hard hike.

Looks like all of trump’s peace and ceasefires unraveled within a week.

Trump wouldn't dare to take on the Israel lobby in the US.

I hope they don't but who could blame Hamas for executing any remaining hostages after this mass murder in Gaza?

Posted in: As Trump thaws ties, Russia has a new public enemy number one: Britain See in context

It's natural to be jealous of superior military powers.

The UK is a minnow in the sea of military powers. The entire Armed forces could not fill a second division soccer stadium. The total stock of UK 155mm artillery shells is about the same as Russia fires in 3 DAYS. In 2023 the Russians called up 290,000 reservists. That is more than the combined armed forces of the UK, France and Italy. UK forces had trouble holding Basra against Iraqi Shia militia, How long would they last against Russia? Silly question as it is never going to happen. Just Starmer talking out of his.....

Not following a trail will lead to more deaths. Not worth trying to save just ¥4,000.

Have you ever been to Mt. Fuji. Its not Everest, just a big version of a South Wales slag heap. From the 5th station it is a 4.5 km uphill walk. Avoiding the trails also avoids the lines of old people and unfit tourists.

I would be checking his home PC and searching the school changing rooms and toilets for cameras.

But what if you don't use a trail?

Just walk into the forest and join the trail later up the hill. Also avoiding the queues. Or just avoid the trails all together.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is not of great importance to Russia. It has no shortage of power generation. It is however, essential to the needs of Kiev. I can see Russia handing this back in exchange for some of the towns in the east not yet taken.

Posted in: Trump and Putin will speak this week on Russia-Ukraine war, U.S. envoy says See in context

I agree with you. A ceasefire with Russia pulling out all of its troops from Ukraine's lands, and with full security guarantees by allowing NATO membership for Ukraine. In return, Russia gets the privilege of not having to pay for any damage they caused to Ukraine's lands and will get to escape being prosecuted for war crimes. Seems like a fair deal if you ask me.

Tell me you are being sarcastic. If you have followed any news from the Ukraine in the last 2 years, even the most biased Kiev propaganda, you would know this is beyond a pipe dream.

I've been saying since the failed spring offensive that the war was over. The Dombas and south are lost. Crimea was always Russian and would remain so. The Ukrainians would get to keep Odesa as Black Sea port and that EVERY death from this point would be a waste. Sadly for some Russians and many more Ukrainians I was correct.

Shirley Bassey has a special coin minted for her? I like Shirley Bassey, but it rather devalues the honour. She had along and successful career, but hardly changed the world.

What is it about Shirley Bassey that got the award? Singing Bond theme songs? Her charity work? Being black?

I'm sure it was one of these.

As Dr. Martin Luther King said so eloquently, "judge people by the content of their character and not the color of their skin".

Dr. King was correct about skin color. That is irrelevant, it is lifestyle, beliefs and cultural differences that cause problems. Some more than others therefore, Japan needs to choose wisely.

If Japan needs immigrants, it should be very careful choosing which people it welcomes. Not have an open free for all. Some countries and cultures may prove to be a better fit than others. Choose wisely to reduce future problems.
