Unless this woman wants to reveal her identity, which we can assume she doesn't, it's hard for the police to pursue this case. And she already accepted some payment to either keep quiet or to not press charges.

"voluntary" questioning isn't voluntary at all. The police surround you, and don't let you move until you agree to come with them.

Ah Kyodo, you always bring a smile to my face with your writings. How about just "ramen shops"?
Anyway, Japanese people need to get out of their deflationary mindset. It's wishful thinking that prices will always be the same or even go down from here on out. Inflation is actually a good thing in the long run.

You don't get mountain sickness from descending a mountain. His excuse is rubbish, and that's why he was jailed. How do I know? Because I climbed Fuji this year and had experienced mountain sickness on the ascent, but on the descent I was fine. Clear as a whistle!
If he had admitted that he was negligent, then he would have been treated differently.

The ONLY way this could be even partially true, is if the police had their DNA on record! Without that, there is no way any DNA "left" at the scene, that alone is a mind-boggling statement, could be connected to anyone!
What's mind boggling is that you haven't watched any police procedurals to know that DNA can be left at the scene from discarded drink cans/bottles, cigarette butts, and on the baby's blanket. Why in the world would they need it on record?1

Despite the overload, I bet the huts on the mountain still haven't increased staff wages
What in the world does this have to do with the story?!?! Smgdfh...
But the reality is that there's actually less people being accommodated in the mountain huts due to covid. The huts are accepting about half their regular numbers; therefore, there's actually less for the workers to due.
And because of fewer accommodations, more people will.try to bullet hike Fuji san, which will potentially increase the numbers of injured or sick.
