I'm a little disappointed that the movie's antagonist Nurse Ratched, played by Louise Fletcher, wasn't mentioned in the above. Fletcher, who received the Oscar for best actress, was perfectly casted opposite Jack Nicholson and gave an incredible performance. I later read that both her parents were handicapped and that she communicated with them by signing, which almost certainly would have contributed to her amazing acting skills. She passed away in 2022.

Yemen is a long distance from Israel and they are not longstanding enemies. Apparently the Houthis feel they have an obligation to Iran for all the weapons it's supplied them with, and that means going after Iran's enemies. Fortunately this sort of low-level conflict is the best the Houthis can manage.

I remember when former PM Kakuei Tanaka extolled the benefits of converting more of Japan's agricultural land to golf courses. Good thing not many people took him seriously, or we'd be exchanging recipes for golf balls.

It's difficult to be inclusive when there's always a country with a chip on its shoulder. As they are taking part in a serious event marking the atomic bombing in 1945, China's and Taiwan's representatives should be seated together, and they should acknowledge each other by shaking hands. That's what's being civilized is all about, isn't it?

Yeah, remember Arthur Calwell and "Two Wongs don't make a White?"
It's not easy to be antisemitic in a country where its greatest WWI commander (whose face appears on the A$100 banknote) was a Jew.

Anyone who predicts Japan will be hit by a catastrophic earthquake is 100% correct. It will. Eventually. Trying to establish a specific date and location, however, is futile. Even the experts' predictions are off by years, or decades.

Since they are generally incarcerated for many years before they're executed, some start a lively correspondence with a monthly magazine called 創 (Tsukuru), which regularly prints their letters.
