Posted in: Japan to set up team to address issues over foreign residents See in context

The fact that this is coming up just before an election is really all you need to know.... It happens in all countries. The right-leaning party is spouting poison that might appeal to certain people, so the other parties have to throw those people a bit of red meat to keep them hooked.

It's not a negotiation, it's a shakedown

Portugal'S policy seems reasonable -

As of January 2025, Portugal grants Portuguese citizenship at birth to children born in the country to foreign parents who have held residency for at least one year.

I haven't watched any of the games. For me, it's nice to take a break from football, and then get excited about the next season of the premier league. I hate to brag, but nothing compared to the premier league.

Posted in: Japan scraps U.S. meeting after Washington demands more defense spending: report See in context

But Tokyo scrapped the meeting after the U.S. asked Japan to boost defense spending to 3.5% of gross domestic product, higher than an earlier request of 3%

So did Japan agree to increase defense spending to 3% and then they moved the goalposts?

J.D Vance, who is that?

Oh yeah, that guy. I forgot about him.

Since putin invaded Ukraine, I feel like we (mankind) have regressed so I don't see us pulling together and agreeing on any realistic goals. We're just going to have to try to geoengineer our way out of it.

I don't want to take anything away from the guys because it's incredible that he can still play at 58 years old (I quit last year at 43 years old, knees are knackered), but this just highlights how bad the J-league is.

NO! Letting them in was a mistake.

bass4funkToday  12:21 pm JST

Yes, we are not dragged in, let me know when we go to war.

You're shooting down Iranian missiles heading for Israel, and Iran has said just said that anyone defending Israel will be a target so it looks like it won't be long before you're dragged in.

Posted in: Israel, Iran launch more barrages as Israel aims to wipe out Tehran's nuclear program See in context

u_s__reamerToday  10:25 am JST

So Iran is not allowed to develop nuclear weapon capability yet Israel can and has?! The stinking elephant in the room has always been Israel's nuclear bomb. Nobody but nobody dare mention the N-word on account of a rogue state's "exceptionalism".

2 words - weapons proliferation - because the thing you have to remember is that if Iran gets 'the bomb' then so does Hezbollah. So in that context, no, Iran should not be allowed to develop nuclear weapon capability.

Posted in: Israel, Iran launch more barrages as Israel aims to wipe out Tehran's nuclear program See in context

Iran's current government does not recognize Israel's legitimacy as a state and has called for its destruction;

Read the sentence above if you're having trouble understanding why Israel doesn't want Iran to have nuclear weapons.

Well, I guess America knew about this last week when they decided to redirect the patriot missiles from Ukraine to Israel.

This will not end well for Israel - they're pushing too many countries around.

Poor Aiko, 18 years old and they have to dress her as a middle aged aunt.

She's not 18 years old. She's 23.

She's at a formal event paying her respects to people who died in a war.

What do you think she should be wearing ?

For people who were born in the 80s (like me), I've got memories of Manchester United winning everything, always winning, never losing. I think that's why some of us are so transfixed on the club's current situation, and why Man U are in the comments

Yeah amazing how every single thing Trump was elected to do gets a blue statue lawsuit with activist judge “randomly” assigned,

Trump was not elected to revoke Harvard University's ability to enroll international students.

My dad was born in Enfield so as a child, it was mandatory for all of my brother's and sisters to support Spurs.

That being said, it's a joke that they might be getting Champions league football after the season they have just had.

Posted in: Blasts rock Indian Kashmir, Amritsar as Pakistan conflict escalates See in context

The fact that Pakistan has nuclear weapons is without a date the reason why they haven't been gobbled up by bigger players already, but you have to wonder if India is feeling that now is the time to sort the Kashmir issue out militarily.

I have no idea why a tourist would want such an “experience” but to each his/her own

I agree (ha, a first for everything I guess)

I can think of a hundred other things to do on a 2-week holiday.
