Where they are welcomed, and they dont go around harassing others in international waters and airspace by dropping flares and chaff in the path of oncoming patrol aircraft and helicopters as China and Russia do with seeming regularity like its their SOP.

New world order coming !!..

The future will be RED !!!..

Red with all the blood shed from "might is right" policy and basic anarchy.

But democracies will never follow China's CCP as leaders, will not bow to China or its belligerence they will simply band together and continue to do their own thing.

This imagined "new world order" wont turn out like you think it will. And you wont like it at all. So much so you will long for the "good old days" of rules and order that have supported China's growth and prosperity all funded by the west's investments. Those days are coming to an end.

Peter...plastic pollution is one of the top ten pollution issues facing the planet . Do you ever shop in a Japanese store ?

I did when I was there. Lots of food waste as well as plastic, not disagreeing on that point. But there are options that can be used if they choose to change, and the contents are still bloody Oishii.

Send Trump himself on a trip to Australia to explain his misgivings on a deal another admin. signed off on.

God no, we dont want him here! Let him do it in the UK, I hear he is going there soon anyway.

My concern is why are we giving away this crown jewel asset when we most need it," Colby said.

Rest easy then because the US is not "giving" anything away, its being sold for premium prices and Trump is trying to screw more from the deal, thats his shtick.

Selling 2 second hand subs with half life left, and 1 new sub, and Australia investing $billions of dollars in expanding US sub building capacity on top of the price for the 3 submarines it buys. With an option if needed for up to two extra subs, also likely to be second hand if the project falls too far behind schedule.

Trump simply wants to be able to say he improved the Biden deal for America by getting a few more billions dollars invested into US shipyards at Australia's cost. Increasing US domestic shipyards brings US jobs and more ships for the fleet making America safer.

Question for Trump is, is he happy for one of America's closest allies to send slow Diesel electric submarines to back up American forces, or faster more deadly nuclear powered subs with cruise missiles should America be attacked? The better an allies armed forces the more value to American safety, and America doesnt even have to pay for it.

Canberra is being willingly bluffed into buying another bag of lemons while at the same time subsidizing someone else's MIC with the trademark gullibility and sycophantic nature unique to them.

Oh my, someone likes to trash talk Australia with inaccurate and bogus ideas.

What a bunch of subservient fools. And to 'protect' the trade routes 'from' their biggest actual trading partner.

In the event of conflict they wont be trading with China at all, but will still need to protect its trade routes from Chinese interference.

They do, after all, have to borrow their head of state from someone else. Logical extension includes a servile 'foreign policy' while having the audacity to comically pretend it or anything here is sovereign/independent.

An incorrect assessment expected from an individual who kneels at the alter of a one party, CCP ruled China. Talk about servile. No ability to change leadership in China but Australia has the ability to do so and the right to become a republic at a time of its people choosing.

China simply continues to be rattled by Australia's growing stature in the region. Why else bother to continually feel the need to try putting Australia down?

Australia will purchase these replacement frigates for the aging ANZAC frigates as any competent nation would do. China gets scared of mighty Australia. So funny.

It's Combat Information Center is really amazing the amount of information displayed in an array of screens that form a 360 degree circle around the many control consoles.

This is one reason for the smaller crew size and it has advantages, it also has a drawback if that section is hit and there is no redundancy with a fallback information section. What is it they say about having all the eggs in one basket?

Putin threatens nuclear weapons use to restrict the assistance given to Ukraine. It is all bluff as Putin has no desire to start something that only ends in his death and Russia's defeat.

It would also make Russia stand out in history as the nation that started a nuclear war for territorial gain, for those left standing. Relieving the US of a descriptor of the only nation to use such weapons in war, and it did so without understanding the consequences, something all are now well aware of today. Russia wont have the excuse that they didnt know how bad it would actually be.

Time to call Putin's bluff. Inform Russia that its forces must leave all Ukraine territory by a certain date or a "coalition of the willing" will send forces to push them back to their borders. Making it clear that no "invasion" or taking of Russian sovereign territory will be taken, but all military targets inside Russia will be valid targets until fighting stops.

Yes Russia could launch weapons at those nations in the "coalition of the willing" but their supplies are limited and any they send at other nations are not being used in Ukraine, ultimately weakening their invasion and increasing the speed of their removal from Ukraine.

Putin will not launch a nuclear war if Russia is not being invaded, but he will bluster and threaten and needs to get the same threats back from France and UK to ensure this remains a conventional conflict only.

Darwin harbour was leased to the Chinese a decade or so ago.

Agreement still in place. Although I will stand corrected if a recent change has occurred.

Both parties lobbied during elections that they would return Darwin Harbor to Australian control. It will likely take a year or two to snail its way through courts etc. Not something that effects the Sea 3000 project.

lots of historical boxes ticked, just not mentioned.

Again, not relevant to Sea 3000 so why would it be mentioned?

i hope the entire 3000 fleet construction won’t be given to a single country.

The first three will be built by the winner with the first one delivered by 2029, and the final eight will be built in Australian shipyards in Western Australia.

The smart move is getting the upgraded Mogami, which strengthens Australia and Japan, their strategic relationship and makes spare parts, repairs and servicing of these ships something both nations can do if needed.

And America meddled by conspiring Australian government to develop bad relations with China and thus China put bans on beef, wine and Barley from Australia and these entire industries are on the verge of collapsing because no other country wants those products from Australia.

Seems this comment is riddled with a poor imagination mixed with false declarations making it a steaming pile of cow dung.

Chinese poor relations with Australia stemmed from some very bad and hasty decisions out of Beijing, thinking it could use trade as a stick to force Australia to make decisions China approved of. This failed on all levels. The Australian public agreed that China banned selected Australian products and that Australia would alter nothing to appease China. Trade on these select items all but stopped with China, forcing Australia to secure new markets, which it did successfully blunting any impact from China. Australia also raised prices on staples China could not halt trading in like Iron ore, and the total exports to China grew in dollar terms even with China's one sided trade war. China backed down with a change in Australia's government providing the face saving needed for China to resume trade in a normal manner again. China accomplished nothing except inflicting power cuts on Chinese during winters without Australian coal and with reduced purchases of Australian LNG.

Nothing collapsed in Australia, nothing was achieved by China expect the world took notice that Australia stood up to China and won.

None of this had anything to do with America, but China loves to point fingers at the US at every opportunity and lay the blame for China's ills at the feet of the USA rather than the CCP.

The amount of products China used to buy from Australia is impossible for any other country to buy because of the large population of China. Australian Government bit the hand that was feeding them because of coziness towards America and now the local farmers, logistics industry and processing industries all suffer because of The USA.

Aussie trade goods that China banned were sold instead to many new markets rather than just one, and Tasmanian lobster prices became much more affordable for Australian consumers so we all thanked China for their error. Again the US had nothing to do with China making such a stupid one sided trade war decision. China tried to bite the hand that feeds it and keeps it warm and it got frostbite for its efforts. Pro China shills still trying to claim a victory out of its humiliation. Dont mess with Australia, we supply things you cant get from anywhere else and in the volumes we supply.

It’s not surprising that Cocoichi has raised its prices. Inflation has been accelerating in Japan over the past year, especially for foodstuffs.

It is also unsurprising that customer numbers drop as prices increase because many will be preparing more food at home where it is cheaper to do so. The ratios are directly connected.

Drop prices back to 2022 before you put them up and see the number of customers swell to get a good deal.

But still in international waters which is quite an important fact to miss out unless this was deliberate as this is obviously yet another anti China propaganda post.

Since China cares not that other nations sail in International waters when it conducts hostile activities like flare and chaff dropping in front of aircraft putting people in danger, and shining lasers at aircraft and ships, should others not treat China as China treats them?

Funny how pro China trots out the "international waters" for Chinese activities but ignore it completely when other nations do it. One law for everyone but no law for China.

Thought that was the basis of all cooking!

Indeed, but in Japan there is an acknowledge trait of using only Japanese rice. So Japanese are overlooking the basic core of food. Try different foods and ways of preparing foods when it comes to other rice types. Be brave and try them. It could save you lots of money and with some foods it will be yummy and worth finding out that some foods suit other rice types. Like different wines compliment different foods, rice can have similar traits.

Using only Japanese rice is like drinking the same wine with all food types. Your missing out.

So a manned crafted successfully landed on the moon in 1969 but an unmanned, robotic craft was unable to do so in 2025. And there have been several other failed missions with unmanned robotic craft.

Manned flights can see errors, sometimes things that will become problems if the corrective action is not taken. Robots and AI still lack this simple human feature. Everything is working until a light goes on and says its not, or a problem is simply ignored as irrelevant when its actually critical but nobody programmed for it.

Japanese need to get used to trying other types of rice. Remember coking different types can mean slight alterations to how you cook and prepare it.

I bought a bag of imported Japanese from the Asian pantry near me for $9.99 AUD 1kg bag and it needs to be prepared differently. I blended it 3-1 with Australian long grain rice (after cooking separately) and left it in the cooker while my meal cooked. Turned out very nicely.

Dont be scared to try new things and play around with it for the best results. It may surprise you, pleasantly.

Time for Japan to bite the bullet and embrace higher emigration rates to offset the decline in births.

Find ways that encourage family growth by having 4 day working week with no reduction in pay. Three days a week off will help young lovers have the time to create stronger relationships, grow together and have more children.

Most studies of 4 day weeks have found no decline in productivity and in many cases it increases productivity and happiness. Reducing stress, as well as costs will help, but there needs to be a huge change in attitudes with more tv shows, movies, social media all showing and talking about how great larger families are for everyone.

Posted in: Europeans concerned U.S. will withdraw support from NATO; Americans should be, too See in context

The economy and population of the EU is many times the size of Russia. If they collectively cannot protect themselves all by themselves they are doing something wrong.

Do we really want Western Europe to be building thousands of nuclear weapons to compete with Russia? Conventionally with much effort they can match and out produce Russian weapons but Russia has the largest nuclear arsenal in the world and only the US comes close to matching that. China is already ramping up nuke production and North Korea simply wont stop its stockpiling a growing nuclear armory.

It is not America that is unreliable, it is Trump. No other US leader from either party has ever shown Trumps unreliability towards NATO, and after him I would expect the normal bipartisan attitudes to the critical importance of NATO to North America and European security to return.

Trump is the weak link for NATO and America. He is played like a fiddle by Putin, who has Trump erroneously believing that Putin is his "good and close friend". He is not. Putin manipulates Trump at every contact, and will continue to do so, playing on Trumps greatest weak spot, his ego.

Posted in: Putin’s tough stance on a Ukraine peace plan shows his resolve on Russia’s demands See in context

He will only accept a settlement on his terms and will keep fighting until they're met.

His terms are never going to be agreed to, and he knows it. Thats why he has made them. His only intention is complete control of all of Ukraine. Any "peace" will be temporary until Russia tries again to conquer all of Ukraine.

NATO and the EU need to increase weapons production to out produce Russia and its suppliers, and ensure Ukraine is able to push Russia out. No other scenario will provide security for Europe long term.

Giving in to Putin would ensure further conflict in Europe in the coming years, so doing enough now is the best course of action and likely the cheapest option long term.
