Posted in: Drifting off -- U.S. late night talk shows no longer must-see TV See in context

It’s a well known fact that the way we consume and access information and entertainment has been changing—

TV (especially if/when you wanna make yourself heard) is slowly becoming a thing of the past—this is especially true when it comes to late night talk shows;

I used to watch these shows growing up in the late 90’s/early 00’s, but not anymore—

one of the reasons is because most hosts (and their guests) have become extremely political and try to tell people how they should think, lecture other people and claim the moral high ground (this trend became more pronounced after Trump ran for President—late night hosts are part of a group of people who are easily influenced by the machine aka the establishment, and let’s put it this way—things started to get serious when Trump started winning in the polls);

( Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert are unbearable to watch,

John Oliver is a puppet from the UK who is not as special as he think he is,

Jimmy Fallon is not that funny and is known for being fake and cringe,

Conan stopped being funny,

Jay Leno and David Letterman have retired,

James Corden (he’s easily swayed by certain rethoric but he’s a likable, funny guy) wants to take a break and spend time with his family in the UK;

I was a fan of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and I can still listen to him occasionally (he recently returned to the show but he doesn’t do it every day); I don’t agree with some things he says but he’s intelligent, also likable, and has the ability to listen, which is very important these days;

Bill Maher is an interesting character, he makes a lot of great points and is not as annoying as Kimmel and Colbert… )

[ "The Joe Rogan Experience," the most downloaded podcast in the world … ]

A perfect example of what the future will be like; just yesterday, Donald Trump reached millions of people just by talking to this guy (the video on YT is on its way to 20 million views in 24 hours and I thought it was interesting how AP phrased one of their headlines yesterday: “Trump leaves Michigan rallygoers waiting in the cold for hours to tape Joe Rogan podcast”—I mean, it’s not like the man committed a crime, lol, and as everyone can see, Joe Rogan was an understandable reason for Trump’s delay)

and it was brilliant—it reminded of when Trump talked to Theo Von, which was also brilliant—just two guys talking about life and politics—it’s genuine and simple—something late night TV can’t offer.

“ She certainly isn’t the most dishonest candidate we’ve seen. “

Being dishonest is part of being a politician anywhere in the world—you’re missing the point here—she is the one whose views on many issues are the most extreme and would radically change America and the western world for the worse—hence the part about hiding her true beliefs—she wouldn't be where she is today if everyone knew the true Kamala.

(edited)

she’s the most incompetent presidential candidate in US history and she still has the support of millions of people around the world (as demonstrated in the comments sections here on JT every day and by the downvotes on certain posts)

Jimizo, maybe it’s not incompetence, it’s dishonesty—that would explain why whenever she speaks without a teleprompter she doesn’t make sense—you and I both know she hides her true beliefs.

He calls women “chicks” and once laughed as a comedian friend described repeatedly coercing young women comics into sex. “—

Another ridiculous attempt by the media to discredit anything or anyone that helps Trump—in this case, will help Trump reach an even larger number people who are willing to vote for him. This is the same as saying “ Joe Rogan is not a perfect human being “—ridiculous.

We’re like a garbage can for the rest of the world to dump the people that they don’t want,” Trump told supporters Friday in Austin. —Accurate.

Certain newspapers refuse to endorse Kamala, CNN and others are tired of her bs, and “ Trump and Harris tied for popular vote in latest poll … “ (meaning that, if reflected in the electoral college, we could be looking at a landslide victory for Trump) and she (the most incompetent presidential candidate in US history) still has the support of practically half the country (and in many cases, the people who vote for her are fully aware that her presidency would be a total failure)—“ … orange man is bad “, lmao.

Washington Post becomes second major U.S. newspaper to decline to endorse a presidential candidate

;

The Post's move comes the same week that the Los Angeles Times announced a similar decision, … “

The following is the correct way to say it: “ The Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post refuse to endorse Kamala Harris. “

Some dudeToday  08:22 am JST

So Kamala is so on the nose that not even the WaPo will endorse her.

So Trump is such a wannabe dictator that not even the WaPo will endorse him.

I mean that's fair, right? “

Nah. Two of the country's most left–leaning liberal newspapers know Kamala will lose and don't want to be associated with such an embarrassing candidate... (this ain’t rocket science… )

Some dudeToday  09:57 am JST “ It's more or less obvious now that MAGA literally wouldn't care if Trump called for a second holocaust. They're going to vote for him whatever he says.

It now just comes down to whether the people who oppose him are motivated enough to vote in large numbers. “

Extremely exaggerated comment (as always); and no—it all comes down to two questions: “ are you better off now than you were four years ago? “ and “ do you hate Trump more than you love your country? “—these are probably the two most important questions right now and something that millions of undecided voters (those who don’t like Trump) and sensible Democrats should be asking themselves.

Posted in: Harris criticizes Trump after John Kelly says he wanted generals like Hitler's See in context

People choose to underestimate, minimize and downplay the strength of the Nazi German military (one of the most powerful forces in world history) and what they were able to achieve during the Third Reich because what the Nazis did was wrong—

( It is a fact (often left aside because it is true that they (the bad guys) lost) that Nazi Germany was only defeated because of the Alliance of millions of brave soldiers from various countries and because of tactical errors (and because of Hitler’s stubbornness) … )

People admire strength and power. Even if it were true that Trump mentioned Hitler and his generals, it would be because of this natural human instinct and not because Trump wants to be like Hitler or do the same things that Hitler did.

Either way, this is just another desperate attempt by John Kelly (who personally doesn't like Trump) and the MSM to mislead American voters.

Posted in: It’s time for a Halloween movie marathon. Here’s what AP had to say about 10 iconic horror films See in context

Hereditary is probably the best horror film of the 21st century—I just watched it for the second time three weekends ago—it will haunt you for a while, but it's worth it—sure, it has visually disturbing scenes (people these days can handle it), but it's the tension and psychological side of it that makes it a masterpiece. It requires at least a second viewing to understand and appreciate, but you won't be disappointed...

( … Hereditary reminds me of The Shining, that's how psychologically disturbing it is (The Shining is considered by many people to be the best horror film of all time (for me, that title goes to The Exorcist, but that's okay, it's an understandable argument and acceptable)…), (but) for Hereditary to be compared to The Shining (it turns out that a lot of people have the same opinion as me), that in itself is an incredible achievement… )

Rear Window, Halloween, and The Silence of the Lambs are classics, but most people have already seen them. The other films on this list are, in my opinion, mediocre (except Get Out, which is a good film, but is extremely overrated), and fall into that “just another (thriller/horror) film” category; in short, if you don't have a lot of free time and can only watch one movie, watch Hereditary.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump manned the fry station at a McDonald's in Pennsylvania on Sunday before staging an impromptu news conference, answering questions through the drive-thru window. “

Brilliant—after eight years(!) of political persecution and turmoil (which would have ruined anyone else's political career), the man survives two assassination attempts, is endorsed by a Kennedy and Elon Musk and still finds time to work at McDonald's, gaining the sympathy of more Americans and putting him in an even better position to become the 47th President of the United States—one of the most iconic campaigns of all time.

”Why are they still being held? Nobody's ever been treated like this," Trump said, adding, "Nobody's ever -- maybe the Japanese during the Second World War, frankly."

—tactless, unfortunate and inappropriate comment. But he's still a much better choice than Kamala; Trump is not presidential and says stupid things, but his administration will do a good job on some of the major issues affecting the American people—true intelligence is when you can distinguish important things from less important things and prioritize what needs to be prioritized at the right time—more than half of the American population understands this—and that's why he will win.

Harris campaign shifts strategy as anxiety rises over Trump gains… “

I'm sorry to disappoint my fellow JT readers who have been saying incessantly that Trump is finished, etcetera, but (and everything has been pointing in that direction for a long time, so it’s been interesting to read some of the comments here on JT lately…)

Kamala will lose (she will (probably) win the popular vote but), Trump will be the 47th President. Reality s-cks, I know.

Support for Trump remains strong and in some states is much higher than in the last two previous elections—

anti–orange man syndrome is (still) real, but a lot of people are realizing that Trump is not the bogeyman the MSM painted him to be—

information travels faster these days and people have easier access to what really goes on behind the scenes—and can see how bad of a candidate Kamala is and that she is not qualified for the job;

at the same time, Trump is the right person to lead the nation and rescue the American people from the disaster that was the Biden administration and he has surrounded himself with extremely competent people.

And look what happened yesterday—

( “ and followed up with a confrontational interview with Fox News to address conservatives. “ — Extremely important. )

( “ Popular podcaster Joe Rogan and his young, male followers could be next. “ — That would be an even more unfortunate decision, heheh… )

Kamala finally did a real interview and what a train wreck it was… (great job by Bret Baier…)

( Baier said on Fox News after the interview that Harris and her team arrived late to the interview and cut it short of what they agreed to.

'We were supposed to start at 5:00 p.m. originally we were going to do 25 or 30 minutes, it came in and said well maybe 20. So, already getting whittled down, then the vice president showed up about 5:15 p.m.' Baier said.

Bret Baier shared details about how Vice President Kamala Harris' team was desperately trying to get the Fox News interview to wrap up after their testy sit-down in Pennsylvania.

'I'm talking like four people waving their hands like "it's got to stop," Baier described to his panel about how the interview ended after it wrapped up.

Lmao… )

“ Ideally, should English teachers at schools in Japan be native speakers? Can non-native English speakers do just as well or better? “

No and yes—

(I don’t think I have the personality to be a teacher but—) I speak five languages (you may think this is impressive, but for a young Western European like me, this is normal), including English (fluent and with a perfect American accent), so I think I would do a better job than a native speaker who only speaks English—

;

My comment is based on the fact that English classes in Japan are a joke so you don’t need much to be considered an “English teacher” in Japan, but unlike some (stupid) people, I don’t look down on those who work or have worked as English teachers (because it’s an easier way to move to Japan).

Posted in: In an engineering feat, mechanical SpaceX arms catch Starship rocket booster back at the launch pad See in context

SpaceX pulled off the boldest test flight yet of its enormous Starship rocket on Sunday, catching the returning booster back at the launch pad with mechanical arms.

A jubilant Elon Musk called it “science fiction without the fiction part.

“The tower has caught the rocket!!” Musk announced via X. “Big step towards making life multiplanetary was made today.

I don't think people in general have any idea of the magnitude of this feat and what it means for the future of humanity (this is partly due to the MSM’s hesitation in covering and praising Elon Musk (and we all know why)).

Elon Musk:

The strong gravity of Earth makes the physics of a fully reusable rocket with positive payload margin extremely difficult to solve, which is why it has never been done before.

Removing the mass of landing legs from the booster and ship by making the tower do the work of final velocity attenuation greatly improves payload margin.

This architecture also simultaneously substantially increases launch cadence, because the same arms that lift the booster and ship onto the launch stand also catch them, allowing immediate placement of the booster back on the launch stand and the ship back on top of the booster. “

I started reading quite a bit about rockets to try to understand why they're so freaking expensive.

Where does the $60 million go for the Delta II? Now Delta II, I think, is $100 million or something, some crazy number. And Delta II is a relatively small rocket. If you go to one of the bigger rockets, it's anywhere from $200 to $400 million.

I came to the conclusion that there wasn't really a good reason for rockets to be so expensive, and that they could be a lot less.

Even in an expendable format, they could be less.

And that if one could make them reusable, like airplanes, then the cost of rocketry would drop dramatically, the cost of space travel would drop dramatically.

Because the cost of the fuel was maybe anywhere from 0.2% to 0.5% of the cost of the rocket.

It's like a plane. How much is the cost of the fuel in the plane versus the plane itself? It's at least a two-order-of-magnitude difference.

But nobody had really been able to make a reusable rocket work. So I thought, if we can do that, then that would really be the key breakthrough for space travel. “

Hmm, last time I checked, breaking the law is wrong.

A serious question for my fellow JT readers here: Is this article about legal or illegal immigration? And what does it matter if Americans have higher crime rates than illegals? (will this make victims of crimes committed by illegals feel better?)

;

… the MSM and the DP avoid making the distinction between legal and illegal immigration (“Trump drives his anti-immigration message in Aurora, Colorado“—interesting headline, isn't it?) which then reflects on the way people think, as evidenced in this comments section (the reason for this is that if the country continues to legalize and naturalize these people, there will be no more swing states and the entire country will be like California-hence the complicity and talk of a "path to citizenship").

The sequel has already been the subject of many think pieces, some who posit that the sequel was deliberately alienating fans of the first movie. In cruder terms, it’s been called a “middle finger.”

The first film was also divisive and the subject of much discourse, then about whether it might send the wrong message to the wrong type of person.

Hmm, the Joker is not a hero, he’s not someone you should admire, praise or look up to and his character is not supposed to have sequels, prequels and a franchise (Joker 1 was always intended to be a standalone film)—

maybe that’s what they’re trying to say (considering how bad/different it is (again, from the perspective of those who liked the first movie) and what happens to the character in the movie (I haven’t seen the movie yet but I heard that it’s ugly));

I still think it’s incredibly stupid to worry about sending the wrong message—this is a big FU to fans of the first movie (even after hearing it was a musical, I was still excited to see it on the big screen but nah, I’m not spending 2000 yen to see this…).

a) A lot of people criticizing Musk lately (for just being human and expressing his opinions). Here’s one of the latest examples of the (positive) impact that Musk’s companies are having on Humanity: “ The Blindsight device from Neuralink will enable even those who have lost both eyes and their optic nerve to see.

Provided the visual cortex is intact, it will even enable those who have been blind from birth to see for the first time.

To set expectations correctly, the vision will be at first be low resolution, like Atari graphics, but eventually it has the potential be better than natural vision and enable you to see in infrared, ultraviolet or even radar wavelengths. “

b) If you lack common sense and the ability to differentiate between what’s true and what’s false, if you’re naive enough to believe that “your side” is always right / “the good guys”, and that the Internet (the world) should be a perfect place, if you’re not able to understand, accept or respect different opinions and beliefs, stay away from X (and social media in general).
