The country hasn’t a clue what it wants.

Japan know what they want, good growth economics, more population, however does Japan really make an effort and really consistent in pursuing that? Or just doing the opposite?

I think staff are usually included in venue attendance figures. But doing that does seem a little shady, doesn’t it?

It's not first time "creative" with statistic being used by Japan.

When Japan's try to count the number of babies born, Japan will include Japanese giving birth abroad and foreign nationals who giving birth in Japan. Anything to boost the number.

There are so many category of foreigners in Japan, there are workers (even cheap labor that being labeled as "trainee"), students, spouse, tourist, refugee etc but any foreigners will look the same for those right wing fear monger.

Currently there are two millions foreigners really work in Japan, which of course pay tax, pension and insurance.

For coming years Japan need more than 5 million foreign workers to keep everything going.

causing concerns for organizers who need 22 million visitors to reach the event's break-even point.

That's valid concern since now we already in July, that expo still open until October 13th, which less than 3 months. while organizer target is 28 million visitor, need at least 22 million to break even.

Who'll pay the organizer if that target couldn't be reached?

@HopeSpringsEternal

On a side note, rented a new Nissan Dayz Hybrid earlier this month, wanted to compare it with VERY similar vehicles from Toyota, Honda, Suzuki etc.

Anyway, these other Kei Cars achieved approx. 25km/liter, while the Dayz, just a lousy 15km/liter...so any real surprise Nissan in so much trouble?

It might related to management after Ghosn left, Ghosn already not in charge by late 2018 which already 7 years, so any car that in market from that company for the past 7 years there's no direct involvement from Ghosn.

Rental car in Japan they'll use newer car which being released for the past 1-3 years, so that Nissan Dayz can be assumed no more than 2022 release (it can be even be newer), with that it still 15km/l, too bad some rental just car won't let renter choose specific car. All renter can do just choose car class, kei car, compact, etc.

Japan's biggest problem, Trump and US Corp exporters losing interest in rapidly shrinking and aging Japanese market Thus, imbalance, as Japanese Corps badly want access to US market that's approx. 9X larger than Japan

Exactly, there's no leverage from Japanese side, at least when China or India negotiate with US they have leverage with market China/India's domestic market size. However in Japan market size is getting shrink due population decline, the one easy way for Japan to do just open rice market which Japan heavily reluctant.

Posted in: Japan to make foreign driver's license conversion tests tougher See in context

With the passing rate in the written portion of the exam standing at 90 percent, some lawmakers have criticized the current evaluation system as "too easy." The passing rate for the driving test is around 30 percent.

If those foreigners can really pass sufficiently, why those "lawmakers" come up with the mind is to make things difficult. The important things is to let driver who have good knowledge with rules and skills passed the test, while Japanese way is really love to make things complicated and difficult.

.

Even when those foreigners passed written exam still there is driving exam which not easy, many test taker take several times for driving exams.

https://soranews24.com/2022/08/29/getting-a-drivers-license-in-japan-the-hard-way-the-end/

https://japantoday.com/category/have-your-say/in-your-experience-how-hard-or-easy-is-it-to-get-a-driver%27s-license-in-japan-what-were-the-written-and-driving-tests-like-1

https://www.quora.com/Why-is-the-process-of-obtaining-a-driving-license-in-Japan-so-disturbing-The-driving-test-is-subjective-and-extremely-difficult-to-pass-I-observed-someone-drive-perfectly-but-he-failed-the-test

.

Currently Japan facing driver shortage (truck driver, bus driver, etc) of course there are foreigners who interested to fill that position, however to go to Japanese driving school will take 300-400 thousands yen, while gaimen kirikae will only take few thousands yen. However Japan's decisions, will only make difficult foreigners who want to get driving license through gaimen kirikae.

.

So Japan just make driver shortage worst but this is Japan, so it just does make sense.
