Posted in: More women in Japan turn to recovery groups to battle alcoholism See in context

In general, as people experience more stress, the higher the alcohol consumption rate is. This is a sign and warning of Japanese society today. It's become much more unhealthy and unbalanced.

I had a coworker who drank so much that he ended up lying down on the road. I pulled his butt to the side of it and told his butt to stop drinking so much. Maybe the same thing happened here w/o a buddy to pull him out of it.

Japan should've stuck with either we buy it and own it or you guys go on down the tubes like you were headed.

Being only a partial owner w/ the Orange Crackpot behind the Curtain holding some Golden Share is only going to have a bad outcome.

Posted in: Japan to ban reselling of rice as cheap stockpiles hit shelves See in context

The store shelves at my local supermarket are completely out of rice. I don't know why people are panic buying when it's been reported that there was a good harvest and that more rice will be coming via government at cheaper prices.

Posted in: Brian Wilson, Beach Boys visionary leader and summer's poet laureate, dies at 82 See in context

RIP, Brian Wilson. I played and sang this song in honor of you all day today. Thanks for creating the dreamy and melodius background music of my youth while growing up in Southern California~~

Ahhhhhh oooooo

This is the way

I always dreamed it would be

The way that it is, oh oh

When you are holding me

I never had a love of my own

Maybe that's why when we're all alone

[Chorus]

I can hear music

I can hear music

The sound of the city, baby, seems to disappear

I can hear music

Sweet, sweet music

Whenever you touch me, baby

Whenever you're near...

Posted in: Are traffic lights in Japan confusing? See in context

...in the countryside where they just disrupt the flow of traffic because most do not have motions sensors...

Conversely, I have two near my house that do have motion sensors and automatically gives me the red light 100% guranteed.

I often drive at 5:30 in the morning with absolutely no other cars out and every time I get to the point where the NTT Docomo shop is, the walk signal starts flashing 100 meters ahead, making it a guaranteed red light within about five seconds.

Posted in: The government has an obligation to explain the process to the public because of the huge amount of taxpayer money spent on the Abenomask contract. See in context

This government threw away a whopping 44.2 billion yen (around $329 million) on those ridiculous things. Honestly, I can't think of one positive thing to say about that guy.

I've been reading the exact same headlines since 1986 here. You can just cut and paste this article every year but change the name of the prime minister and slightly change the pathetic numbers and percentages.

Posted in: Japan’s most popular curry rice restaurant chain losing customers as it raises prices See in context

It HAS gotten way more expensive than it used to be.

In the early 90s, I coincidentally wandered into one when I was in Tokyo and paid just smidge over 300 yen for a tonkatsu curry. I was pleasantly shocked at how cheap it was for such delicious J-curry.

Fast forward ten years to the early 2000s, and I was eating their all the time for still just about 400 yen for most of the dishes there.

Then around five to seven years ago, I found myself paying closer to 700 yen for the same plates I used to pay 400 for. It felt like a big jump.

Now, I can't get out the door for lesson than 1,000. Going from 300 to over 1,000 yen for the same dishes is massive for a populace, including me, that makes about the same amount of money as they did at the beginning of the 90s.

I've lost my fast-food go-to spot. There's something to be said for economic stagnation of the 90s-00s-10s. Prices were stable.

Remember, these are the people who knit your sweaters, assemble things in factories, grow and pick your fruits and vegetables, cook your food in restaruants, clean your toilets. We don't need Call of Duty swarming down on our neighbors and loved ones.

Gotta keep these foreign athletes away from local Japanese population. Seriously though, this seems like a good idea. Hope a virus doesn't spread on board though.
