"a few tens of thousands of yen,"

So how much would that be? 'a few', 20,000 would be a 'couple' so...30, 40?

50,000 for each of us and I'll ask my wife to vote for Ishiba!

'..how are the Japanese police supposed to know that Black/White/Arabic people whose ethnicity is very obvious in Japan are in fact Japanese citizens?'

Hmm...maybe we could give foreign nationals...I don't know,..a White Armband to wear?

P_CToday 05:56 pm JST

btw, is the ship's take off / landing portion slanted? design function?

Yeah, the angled take off ramp allows for simultaneous takes offs and landings. Better flight deck efficiency and smaller carrier. You'll notice the Flat decks are markedly larger.

We have sanitary disposal bags in our bug out bag.

But the most important thing is some wet wipes and alcohol gel for your hands.

If the world indeed ends, we certainly won't try our luck at public facilities. A a garden trowel to fig a hole, a private bush and some wet wipes will suffice.

Posted in: 'Bumping men' are a uniquely Japanese class of criminals that are hard to deal with See in context

The 'bumping man' thing here is quite hilarious, but yes a big annoyance.

Over the years I've received a few deliberate shoulder checks from idiots. The deliberate ones are easy to tell, because they don't apologize. I find it funny because I'm heavier than I look, so I know they hurt themselves.

i had an idiot just the other week, who actually threw a punch at my back as we passed. i went back and confronted him verbally about it, and he just stood there silently with this pathetic 'What is happening?' look on his face. I scolded him and got on with my day.

Posted in: New bike laws in Japan take effect in 2026. What cyclists and drivers need to know See in context

I'm not a fan of this.

It's just a step towards police being able to collect revenue from citizens anywhere anytime.

I guarantee there will be an increase in accidents with cyclists forced to take the risk on the roads with the drivers here.

Posted in: Tariffs set to level up game console prices See in context

PC gaming is a much better option. With a few caveats:

you need space for a mid tower.

Building a rig for specific purposes, and allowing for upgradeabity.

buying ‘last gen’ top tier components and knowing the specs you need for what you want to do.

buying software during the big sales.

Having just built a new rig for just over double the price of a PS5, the console prices, and software costs just look ridiculous in compartison.

Why release still images? There was a video on 'You tube' the day this happened. the general opinion was the pilot put the chopper through some maneuvers that broke it; maybe the maneuvers were an attempt to recover after something else happened though.?

Posted in: Police to fine minor rule-breaking cyclists from April 1, 2026 See in context

This has nothing to do with safety, and everything to do with a Government desperate for more income.

Zero kamikaze housewives will be 'pulled over and fined', it will mostly be a trap for men at night, and foreigners trying to get to work.

Posted in: Some restaurants require that customers use their smartphones to read the QR code in order to see the menu. How do you feel about that? Would you rather see a printed menu? See in context

I agree with many here. It's annoying af and detracts from the dining out experience. We went to a restaurant the other week, and had to instal LINE just to get out meals, and then they hit us with a hidden service charge...when questioned they pulled out a printed menu with a tiny note describing the service charge. We reported them to the local consumer welfare group and certainly will not return.

@ GBR48 'Punishing individuals for what their government does in unjust. Would you want to be held responsible for what your government does?'

You've kind of hit the nail here and are exposing the failure of Democracy; because an freely elected Government should be doing exactly what the individual collective of the society wants.

I work everyday too. Because i can, and because I want to.

If you give me a day off of my weekday job, with no reduction in pay...Oh Hell yeah!

But you and i both know know 4 day work week = BIG reduction in your salary.

So much about our society would need to change for it to be viable.

Lost in Translation, I think many of us living here experienced most of that film at some point. Many of us scene for scene.

Until the End of the World also portrays 2 sides of Japan well in just a short segment of the film.

''there need to be a reasonable police presence to prevent events like this from happening.''

But that's the tragedy of the trick.... You CAN'T prevent these things from happening. If they had a hundred police officers there, lacking any clear motive, the guy would have apparently just stabbed someone somewhere else where they weren't.
