UN 2758 is an abomination and can safely be put int he wastebasket. Nothing can be made retroactively "illegal" either.
@Baradzed Run us through the scenario wherein a nuclear armed Taiwan dissuades Mainland military operation in and around the Chinese island of Taiwan.
Being able to incinerate PLA invaders would be a start. Would have to be done in the strictest secrecy though or Peking would launch a special military operation to try to prevent it.

Are we hand-wringing over photos taken in public again?
Those are photos of crotch shots etc of individuals who are simply trying to compete at athletic competitions. Would you have no problem if your daughter was photographed in this way, and if the photo was published in a popular magazine/online site, with her name and face clearly visible?
I can't say I have a daughter but I imagine this goes with the territory of being female. If it is a huge problem with loads of photographers showing up to high school sporting events, perhaps the issue is the complete lack of normal pornography for people to get it out of their system.

what the US is doing is extremely dangerous. The Chinese constitution demands territorial integrity (including Taiwan), and the use of military force is justified if no other means are possible. Pushing China in the corner is completely unnecessary. The escalation of the conflict must be avoided at all costs.
If China wants to start WW3 over the signing of a defense agreement with Taiwan, then it is best to get it over with.

I can't tell the difference between a Chinese and Taiwanese. They speak the same language, look the same, I am pretty sure they have common culture too. There is no real reason for China and Taiwan to have a war unless US and other countries making it an excuse to start a war. In that case, there would be a war regardless of Taiwan and China arguments.
Sounds like an excellent reason for the PRC to let this one go.

Also interesting that alliance homie types get the special right to declare which separatist regions are special and those they object to with zero consistency.
Stolen regions of Ukraine are not legal separatist regions six ways from Sunday.

We are justified to demand to know what role will the Osprey base, now under construction in Henoko, Okinawa, play in such a war.
If Japan is in it to defend Taiwan, it owes much more than just an Osprey base.

But 620 drones fired and only six killed? it highlights the complete incompetence of the Russian military - and offers clues why Putin is firing all his Generals and his senior defense civilians are all committing suicide.
More obviously it highlights the fact Russia is targeting military related targets. The civilian casualties are results of hits from shot down and jammed uncontrollable drones. But indeed , every civilian death is tragic and highlights the need to sign a peace agreement asap. Peace efforts must be accelerated.
A just peace will not be had under an emboldened Putin.

Peaceful reintegration like the successful HK and Macau templates is the sensible path forward.
Then finally, there will be decent UN-observed recognition.
Not much point in being recognized as part of the mindless blob of the PRC. HK and Macua didn't have troops or a strait to resist.

@iraira It's called contingency planning. I hope they built in the most likely contingency of the ROC military quickly capitulating and suing for peace. Meanwhile Lai and other DPP "leaders" will flee most likely to Guam/Hawaii somewhere in the US where they have stashed their funds.
Just like how Zelenskyy packed up and left, huh? Free people don't just roll over for your disgusting role models.
The best course of action is for the US to butt out, and encourage both sides to come to a peaceful agreement as was written in the Shanghai Communique (1972) and the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations (1979).
Again, no one is going peacefully under the boot of the CCP.

It's strange how the most vocal warmongers are never the ones who volunteer to fight on the frontlines. Have you signed up yet?
No, but I would be happy to be in the line of fire. Maybe I will be.
Worry more about the state of your own country, USA. Oh that's right, gotta deflect attention away from domestic problems, the west Asian genocide it's complicit in, and all the other proxy wars around the world it's involved in. USA should try and reduce the 800 military bases it has all over the world. Instead of these forever wars which benefit the military industrial complex, American citizens might benefit for once. Basically USA wants countries like Japan to act like cannon fodder, Ukrainian style.
Counties can choose not to give Peking anything.

No they shouldn’t! It’s a mess that the USA has created by poking the sleeping dog China!
China doesn't have to kill or enslave 23 million people.
Taiwan and China should deal out their issue themselves.
The deal is China accepts the world as it is.
That money for 55,000 personal amounts to each American military member getting around 6 million yen yearly through Japan Government’s contribution in hosting them and its more than what an average Japanese person makes in a year.
The average Taro isn't defending anything.
Japan is more than capable of defending itself by upgrading its military by redirecting the funds it currently pays to America as that type of money will enable them to become one of the worlds top military forces not to be messed with!
And getting nukes. Don't forget that essential component.

the U.S. military should prioritize competition with China and shift its focus from the Middle East and Europe.
Why China? Middle East and Europe seem more important/worth for the US. There are more US military bases there than Asia now.
There are hundreds of millions of people in non-China Asia.
