Considering how well TEPCO shaft the Japanese tax payer, you'd think sticking a pole together would be easy. Extraction. No. It's not is it. It's a test, at best, to see how little they can actually do.

It is undoubtably a melt through at Unit 1. The molten fuel went trough the PCV and will have eaten through the concrete mat. And getting a rod put together in the right order is beyond the present team.

Seems that some can't compute; by their commentary it appears to them that if one wasn't actually in Kyushu at the time of Typhoon 10's arrival and/or landfall then they are unable to grasp how powerful a tropical cyclone this was. If you don't get it, look at the footage online from you're office in Slough.

Posted in: 3 dead, 80 injured in 7 prefectures as typhoon hits southwest Japan See in context
As most will have been prepared, and know what to do during a violent typhoon, the immediate impact seems to have been kept minimal. It would have been a lot worse if people behaved like some would do and treat a typhoon as "Just a bit of rain".
The clear up, power issues and flood waters will be something that will take time to sort out. In Japan, if you don't have a grab bag prepped, or emergency food, water etc in stock... Then you're in an office in Slough.

Anyone who knows even the most rudimentary facts about tropical cyclones would know this was going to be a very powerful storm, stay safe people. And please ignore the pooh-pooers who say typhoons are "nothing" and to "not stock up on food, water". They probably don't even live in a region affected by tropical cyclones so do not know a thing about what it is like! Stay safe. Stay hydrated.

Sr 90 is particularly nasty, the body "thinks" it is calcium so absorbs it deep within bone marrow where it can cause cancers of the bone, bone marrow, and soft tissues around the bone. This disaster hasn't even started.
