I don't know what is more discussing about this "Idol" business in Japan, that old perverts and pedos watching and cheering for very young girls in very short dresses being kawaii on stages, or that those young ladies are treated like onjects and sexualisez dolss by those scrupuless Idol Agencies, that totally control their lives in all aspects?
spektral
and what happens after they are "discarded" when they become 20 or above? are they then free to do whatever they want or are they still under some kind of watch?
John
will there be virginity test requirement?

The sad thing about being idols in Japanese society is you almost need to be a demi-god level of perfection in everything from your looks, demeanor and even to what you probably eat. It goes even as far as seeping into one's personal life. I remember one half-british idol who had to apologize in public for having a lover, her career never recovered, sadly. This is one of the dark sides of Japan's entertainment industry, entertainers are deemed to be perfect and not have any flaws and things that are undesirable such as a pesky lover.
I mean, how can a man fantasize about their idol if they know she already has a man? Note the sarcasm.

Its fetishism. Some people are excited by the idea of the idols being under control like that. I just see them as being dim-witted children in sillly costumes. They may have nice teeth, but they're not attractive in a sexual sense. The vulnerable people who patronise them feel some kind of power in controlling the idols, who are even more vulnerable. Their rank on the totem-pole of life feels higher than it is by their feeling of control over little girls. This is all done on the pretence that they are creating music, which of course they are not.
If you want music, seek a musician.
If you want sex, seek a woman, preferably with a brain.
If you want to be respected by society, stop living in a fantasy world, and better yourself.

They want to bring the stars closer to their audience :)

Makes no sense.

Some of these idols were signed up to this form of slavery, servitude by parents.
Preteens,
it is the talent agencies allowed to commit acts of child abuse,
Time for naming and shaming, heads to roll in the saw dust, lives are for living, no wonder some of these children end up scarred for life.
Any wonder the scourge of depopulation haunts Japan

Hey, whatever it takes to keep a few million 40–50 year-old borderline child molesters drooling and spending money

I wonder what the policy on autotune and lipsynching is for idols. Would that distract from the illusion of being in a relationship with the fans?

This is an aspect of East Asia culture of which I do not understand, at all.

It’s a pathetic state of affairs-form over substance!

It's perversion of the highest degree. Here in America, we have these 'Jon Bon Ramsey' 'beauty pageants' where little girls are exploited and trained to dance and sing and pose in 'contests' so the parents can make money. It's going on for over 30 years now. I've even seen the parents kissing these girlies on the lips. And we now have 'father-daughter' dances and 'dates', so they 'get to know their parents better'. It's even done in the name of religion with those 'chastity balls'. Grooming them into pleasure for perverts.
And yes, it's a fetish. It's horrible, warped. Makes you wanna cry.
Need I mention the 'music industry' too? Get a cute girlie and dress her a short skirt or leather pants, have her lip-synch and gyrate on stage. Autotune will 'cure' the studio recording infections. Made a provocative video. Now just get some choreographed dancers. Play the recording and drum machine backstage and voila! - instant hit.
Dumb sexpots. Look at Britney, Xtina, Spice Girls, Hillary Duff, Lady Caca. Now there's this K-pop phenom and it too is stupid.
I know for a fact there's another angle. Before covid I have seen and met a few rock'n'roll bands from the Orient Far East. I've seen and met the lady J-punk trio Shonen Knife about 5 times. They have this 'cutesy-wutsey'/kawaii air to them, but that's Japanese culture for ya. They never push the 'sexual' angle, they're just plain fun. And in 2019 I saw and the Japanese psychedelic band Acid Mother's Temple and they're serious contenders too, their music is trippy! I have also seen and met a K-ROCK duo whose name is pronounced as 'Oh Chill' which they ain't. And LBNL, in December 2019 I saw the Mongolian hard rock band the Hu; which is getting a lot of well-deserved attention lately.
There are some but you have to look harder for that. That means destroying your radio.

I hate this Kpop or J pop but why is a company policy on working condition a problem. No one are forcing these employees into the industry. They choose to enter the industry on their own decision. Police have a policy of if you do crime you loss your Job. Prison Guards have a policy of no sex with prisoners loss your job Army have a policy of not shooting a fellow soldier or loss your job Most job disallow drinking alcohol or loss your job. Come on spot light you can do better for a topic. then finding a problem on occupation and company policy.

I wonder if the "no sex" part includes, "with each other"?

It's all crap by any other name.
FACT: Lady Gaga took her moniker from the 1984 Queen hit song 'Radio Gaga' which pans BBC radio formats playing infantile bullcrap music.
'All we hear is Radio Gaga, Radio Goo-Goo, Radio Nyah-Nyah....'
Well, Lady Gaga certainly makes and plays 'Radio Gaga' music. It's stupid and it sucks the butt, big time. And her videos are usually offensive, disgraceful.
She picked the perfect stage name. If the shoe fits, you wear it.
